This happy little guy turned ONE and mama wanted to celebrate this very special milestone with a One Year Cake Smash Session with us! Such a dapper little guy! We try our very best to make these sessions as easy and stress free for parents! We pretty much have it nailed down to a complete system at this point. We recommend that parents order a custom birthday hat from a preferred Etsy vendor- all the hats you see in the cake smash sessions on this blog are from the same Etsy shop. Once parents order the hat, we place the order for a matching 7″ custom cake and matching balloons. Both of which are here at the home studio upon arrival for the session. Parents just need to bring baby and their birthday hat! We DO try to sneak in a few looks prior to the cake smash, but if we feel at any point baby is starting to tire out, we go straight to the big event: the CAKE SMASH!
The funny thing is though, these Cake Smashes can go any which way with the little ones. I always include in all my emails to parents our thoughts and experience with these sessions. Sometimes they can be a lot of fun and quite hilarious- but sometimes they can also be quite difficult. I think the biggest challenge with photographing babies at this age is they are quite aware of strangers or anyone that is not a “regular” in their lives. While some can be easy to open up to us, some can be very apprehensive and there is often a lot of crying during the session when this happens, which can be stressful on both baby, parents and us. Along with this, many one year olds have never actually touched frosting and the tactical feeling can easily turn them off. We always want to be very upfront with parents as to the reality of this session, prior to booking with us. There is a real amount of time, energy and money invested in these sessions by parents, and I want to be as honest as possible. So with that being said, you know your little one’s personality best and can decide how you think they will be. We are currently playing the odds though- as our last 15 cake smashes have been awesome, lots of fun and no crying!
